It's a true and known fact that the festive season in Cape Town doesn't begin until the day of Festive Lights Switch-On. Occurring annually in December, the Festive Lights Switch-On is a highly anticipated event. The young and the old come together in the city on this day to celebrate the start of the Christmas season.  The event is the city's biggest free open-air street party and Capetonians come in their numbers to celebrate this occasion.

The event starts at 4 pm, with live performances by popular African musicians and then the switch-on of lights by the mayor. There will be several stalls lining the streets carrying everything from food to Christmas gifts.

Here is a sneak preview of what happened last year.

The event is perfect if you want to enjoy a full day outing with your family. It's one event that is enjoyed by all, young and old. P.s. The city will enforce road closures and no parking will be allowed on both Darling and Adderley Streets.
